We are now down to one. One game. One shot to make it to the finals of the PBA Philippine Cup and face the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, which have been itching to go back to the court for nearly a week by Friday.
Except for that rout in game two, all matches have been close with both sides trading clutch baskets and crucial plays. One can say that we should throw all the stats out of the window because this game seven will all be about mental fortitude, in-game adjustments, and excellent execution. Still, MSW assesses the apparent strengths of each squad and why we think they will prevail.
Some of the things going for the Barangay Ginebra Kings are their height and athleticism. Once their big men control the boards and their speedsters start running and hustling, all the opposition can do is chase them or hold them down. And although the endgame decisions of their veterans have been raised, one can’t discount the fact that they have deliver when it counts.
While Ginebra has the surplus of youth in this series, the San Mig Coffee Mixers make up for it with experience and veteran smarts. Even their rookies have battle scars to show from their previous exploits outside of the PBA. This wisdom transcends to the coaching staff as Tim Cone’s deputies are some of the best who have played the game and have been through pressure-packed situations before.
It is hard to say which side will win as the sibling squads are pretty even. Basing on how the Manila Clasico showdown has gone so far, it will go down to one final bucket in the waning seconds of the game.
